MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 9, 2010) – The American Heart Association announces Mrs. Debbi Fields Rose as chairperson of the 7th annual Go Red For Women campaign. Go Red is a national movement to motivate and inspire women to prevent heart disease. Locally, two special events are scheduled for April: “Art for the Heart” – April 20 from 5-9 p.m. and the Go Red For Women “Girls Night Out” Symposium – April 22 from 5-10 p.m. with both events taking place at the former Harrah’s Entertainment Corporate Offices, 1023 Cherry Rd. in Memphis (behind the Dixon).

“I am so excited to be a part of this year’s Go Red For Women campaign,” said Fields Rose, founder of Mrs. Field Cookies. “My goal as chair is to reach as many women as possible and bring awareness to the No. 1 killer of women – heart disease, since this deadly and silent killer is mostly preventable.”

Debbi Fields Rose is also the former chairperson of Mrs. Fields Cookies, a $500 million company with over 650 domestic locations, and over 65 international locations in 11 different countries. She started the company at the age of 20 in Palo Alto, Calif., and was one of the first food retailing businesses to use technology to streamline operation and production schedules using a state-of-the-art computer system in the late 1980’s.

Additionally, she is the author of two cookbooks published by Time-Life. The first, 100 Recipes from the Kitchen of Debbi Fields has sold more than 1.8 million copies and was the first cookbook to top The New York Times bestseller list. The second, I Love Chocolate cookbook, published in 1994, has enjoyed tremendous success as well, posting sales of over half a million copies. Fields Rose is the mother of five and wife of Michael Rose.

“I strongly believe in empowering women in all areas of their lives, especially health,” Fields Rose said. “The two events scheduled, Art for the Heart and the Go Red For Women Girls Night Out Symposium, will encompass all facets of health and wellness with an emphasis on heart health.”
